Celebrate the bonds of family with this beautiful 5" x 7" journal featuring "Family" by Betty Albert (Wabimeguil), a Cree artist from Northern Ontario with over 30 years of artistic tradition celebrating Indigenous spirituality, women, and the importance of family connections.
About the Artist:
Betty Albert, also known as Wabimeguil, belongs to the Chapleau Cree First Nation in Northern Ontario. She began her career in 1991 and as a professional artist concentrated her art in representing native women and spirituality. Her artwork has a special connection to the land and culture of the James Bay Cree. Both have served as the backdrop against which she has spent over thirty years evolving and developing her own distinct style of Indigenous artwork.
Cultural Significance: Family is the foundation of Indigenous communities and cultures. Family extends beyond immediate relatives to include extended family, clan members, and the entire community. The concept of family in Indigenous cultures encompasses not just blood relations but also the relationships we have with the land, animals, and all of creation. "Family" celebrates these sacred bonds and the love that holds us together.
