About the Artist:

Richard Shorty was born in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory in 1959 and belongs to Kwanlin Dun First Nation, Northern Tutchone. A self-taught artist, Richard developed his own unique style in the early 1980s by painting the wildlife form of animals and adding his Indigenous design on the inside of the form. His work has been sought after by stores and collectors for decades, making him one of the most recognized Indigenous artists from the Yukon.

About the Green Heron: The green heron is a skilled hunter and patient observer, representing wisdom, adaptability, and the ability to see beneath the surface. In Indigenous teachings, the heron reminds us to be patient, to observe carefully, and to trust our instincts.
